Special Report: How to Get New Paying Members… Even in a Bad Economy
by Ryan Healy
Selling memberships to a membership web site is not always easy.
Especially when the economy is not doing well.
The reason why is one of the first places people look to cut expenses is on their bank or credit card statement. If they see any recurring transactions, they’re likely to cancel them.
What’s more, they’re NOT likely to sign up for any new memberships!
But that doesn’t mean you can’t get new members by the dozens. With the right approach, you can.
Your Offer Matters More than Your Sales Letter
To get people to sign up for your membership site, I bet you probably have some kind of written sales letter to explain the benefits of membership and to get prospects to become members.
But here’s something extremely important to remember:
Your offer is more important than the words you use to persuade.
To illustrate this, let me give you an example.
If your membership site is all about crocheting, and you ask for $1,000 a month, chances are you’re not going to get any new members, ever.
That’s because $1,000 a month for membership is just a bad offer for a site that teaches you how to crochet.
Now, price is only one component of your offer. There are also bonus gifts to think about. If you offer multiple high-value bonus gifts upon sign up, you may have an easier time getting members.
With that in mind, let me tell you about…
A Selling Strategy that Works Like a Charm
People love to get free stuff.
So one way to entice people to join your membership site is to offer one or more bonus gifts for free.
But don’t sell your membership — sell the bonus gifts instead!
Here’s how it works:
1. Write a headline that promotes your bonus gifts.
2. Sell your prospect on why these bonus gifts are so important for him to have.
3. Then, tell your prospect that he can get all these bonus gifts for FREE!
4. Finally, reveal that he can get all these free bonus gifts immediately when he becomes a member of your site.
By doing this, you can create a lot of up-front value and then make it seem ridiculously affordable because of how little you’re asking for your monthly membership fee.
How to Make a Good Offer Even Stronger
Let’s say you’ve taken my advice: You’ve created an irresistible bonus gift package, and you’re giving it away for free when new members sign up. Let’s also say your membership costs $49 a month.
You could let your offer stand: Get all the bonus gifts when you sign up for $49 a month.
Or, you could make your offer even MORE irresistible by offering a short-term trial for free or for a reduced price.
You might offer a 10-day trial for $1. Or perhaps a 14-day trial for $4.99. Or perhaps some other variation.
By doing this, you instantly lower the barrier to entry. What’s more, if a person has any interest in your membership site at all, they’re going to have a hard time saying no.
Which means you’ll get more new members… faster… no matter what the economy is doing!
